Mittersill Backcountry Area:
It pretty much hasn't stopped snowing since Monday morning and we picked up 5" of new snow last night... light & fluffy pow. We've already picked up 8-9" of snow in the past 4 days and the forecast is calling for more over the next few...possibly a lot more! Come on folks, it's a powder morning - safely the best day of the season so far...appointments will be abandoned and friends left by the wayside...just make sure you get yours. Be prepared for mostly single digit temps all day today, but it's all so much sweeter when tickets are just 2-for-$72!
Thursday - we plan to open at 9am with 14 trails & 4 lifts (we'll make an effort to drop the rope on Zoomer at some point this AM as well). The Peabody Express & Zoomer chairs service intermediate & advanced skiing/riding, and for beginner terrain head to the Brookside lift or access Lower Cannon or Gremlin from the Eagle Cliff Triple. Also, a small but impressive terrain park with 3 rails & 2 jumps is located near the base area. Groomers smoothed out most open terrain overnight with the exception of Lower Ravine, Gary's & Rocket(hint hint)...probably want to head right over to Zoomerside for 5" of untouched pow! Powder and packed powder are the surface conditions du jour.
Looking Ahead - Snowmaking crews are on Lower Ravine, Zoomer, Raven Ridge, Bear Paw, Deer Run, and Huckerbrook, with fan guns on Tossup, Brookside, Tuckerbrook Base, and Zoomer Base. We'll continue through the day on those and we're shooting to have some of that terrain open by the weekend. Then it's on toward the summit and Tram!
